The Challenge
The distributor’s grid customers demanded cold-shrink tubes with a stable 2.5-3.0x expansion ratio, hydrophobic recovery after surface tracking per IEC 60502-4 usage conditions, and -50°C to 200°C service capability for outdoor switchgear. Their previous supplier’s tubes showed permanent set after storage, failing to clamp reliably after installation.
Our Solution
We produced the tubes in high-tear HTV/LSR hybrid silicone with validated expansion ratio, ran tracking-resistance and hydrophobic-recovery validation aligned to IEC 60502-4 service conditions, thermal-cycled from -50°C to 200°C, and implemented lot-by-lot dimensional and spring-force inspection with export documentation for tender submissions.
Results
- ✅ Expansion ratio held at 2.5-3.0x with zero storage set failures
- ✅ Tracking resistance & hydrophobic recovery validated per IEC 60502-4 service conditions
- ✅ Passed -50°C to 200°C thermal cycling for outdoor switchgear use
- ✅ Approved for provincial grid tender submissions; repeat annual contracts
